NATO revamps air surveillance approach for the ‘cost-war’ of low-flying drones, missiles
NATO is revamping its aerial surveillance capabilities in response to the effectiveness of low-altitude drones and missiles, as highlighted by Adm. Pierre Vandier. The Allied Federated Surveillance & Control (AFSC) program aims to replace aging Boeing E-3A AWACS with a multi-domain surveillance network. A subgroup of 10 member states is set to procure new airborne early warning platforms by 2026.
